Hotel Pickup

We’ll collect you from your hotel or accommodation anywhere in Miyazaki City before heading south along one of Japan’s most scenic coastal roads.

Aoshima

Our first stop is the beautiful island of Aoshima.

Connected to the mainland by a pedestrian bridge, this small island is surrounded by the famous Devil’s Washboard, unique rock formations created over millions of years by the movement of the Pacific Ocean.

Walk beneath towering tropical trees before arriving at Aoshima Shrine, one of Miyazaki’s most important spiritual sites dedicated to love, marriage and safe travel.

Take time to explore the island, enjoy the ocean views and capture unforgettable photographs.

Horikiri Pass (Horikiri Tōge)

One of Miyazaki’s most famous scenic viewpoints, Horikiri Pass offers breathtaking panoramic views over the Pacific Ocean and the rugged Nichinan Coast. From the lookout, you’ll see dramatic cliffs, rolling waves and the coastline lined with towering phoenix palm trees that have become a symbol of Miyazaki.

It’s a favourite stop for photographers and one of the best places to appreciate why Miyazaki is known as Japan’s tropical paradise. We’ll take time to enjoy the scenery, capture memorable photos and learn about the history of this beautiful coastal route before continuing south.

Udo Shrine

Next we travel along the spectacular Nichinan Coast to Udo Shrine.

Unlike most shrines in Japan, Udo Shrine is built inside a cave overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

For centuries sailors, fishermen and travellers have visited this sacred place to pray for protection and good fortune.

One of the shrine’s most popular traditions is throwing a small lucky clay ball towards a sacred rock below the cave. Landing the ball inside the rope circle is believed to bring good luck.

The combination of crashing waves, dramatic cliffs and colourful shrine buildings makes Udo Shrine one of the most unique religious sites in Japan.

Sun Messe Nichinan

After lunch we visit one of Miyazaki’s most famous attractions.

Sun Messe Nichinan is home to Japan’s only officially authorised Moai statues, inspired by the famous statues of Easter Island.

Standing high above the Pacific Ocean, these enormous monuments provide spectacular views over the coastline and have become one of Miyazaki’s most photographed locations.

The park also features walking trails, gardens, observation decks and cafés, making it an enjoyable place to relax while taking in the scenery.

Obi Castle Town

Our final destination is the charming samurai town of Obi.

Often called the “Little Kyoto of Kyushu”, Obi has preserved much of its Edo-period atmosphere.

Walk through quiet streets lined with traditional homes, visit the castle grounds and explore beautifully restored samurai residences.

You’ll also have the opportunity to sample local specialties and browse artisan shops selling handmade crafts and regional products.

Obi offers a wonderful glimpse into Japan’s feudal history while remaining peaceful and uncrowded.

Return to Miyazaki

After a full day exploring southern Miyazaki, we’ll return you to your hotel with plenty of great memories and photographs.
